FAQ

Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax total?

This is a matter of preference. Tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is more common and slightly lower. Tipping on the total (including tax) is simpler to calculate.

What is a good tip percentage?

In the US, 15% is the minimum standard for adequate service, 18% is typical, and 20%+ is common for excellent service. Fine dining and bartenders often receive higher tips.

Can I split the bill unevenly?

This tool calculates equal splits only. For uneven splits, use the total per-person amount as a starting point and adjust manually.
