What is Image Compressor?
Image Compressor reduces the file size of images directly in your browser by adjusting output quality and format. No upload to a server Eyour images are processed locally using the browser's Canvas API.
How to use
- Click Choose Image and select a JPEG, PNG, or WebP file.
- Adjust the quality slider (lower = smaller file, less detail).
- Optionally select an output format (JPEG, WebP).
- Click Compress and download the result.
Notes
- JPEG and WebP use lossy compression. Some image quality is lost at lower settings.
- PNG compression is lossless Eswitching a PNG to WebP may give better size reduction.
- WebP typically produces 25 E5% smaller files than JPEG at the same visual quality.
- Compression is done in your browser. Images are never sent to a server.
FAQ
- What quality setting should I use?
- 80 E5% quality is a good starting point for web use Eit produces noticeably smaller files with minimal visible quality loss. Go lower for thumbnails or background images where fine detail matters less.
- Should I use JPEG or WebP?
- WebP is supported by all modern browsers and typically produces smaller files. Use JPEG for maximum compatibility with older systems or when WebP support is uncertain.
- Does compression affect image dimensions?
- No. This tool compresses quality only, not dimensions. Use the Image Resizer tool to change width and height.
